Entirely self-taught as artist, I have been drawing from the age of three onwards… I followed a scientific training, involving a degree in Botany (Durham University), then a PhD in molecular genetics (Cambridge University). I took regular night-classes in art-subjects whilst studying life-sciences, doing a great deal of still life work, as well as screen-printing and engraving. My first pure illustration commissions came around 1992 from the science magazine "Trends in Biochemical Sciences" for who I wrote and drew a hundred or so episodes of a series entitled "Post-Docs of Rap". Many other scientific commissions have followed, and I have subsequently worked for the Journal of Cell Science, the Journal of Experimental Biology, and the French Magazine Technikart.
